A confluence is a strategic place where two or more bodies of water meet. The meeting of these bodies of water is not the most important point, but rather the refusal of a particular river to mix with the others. Wondrous, isn't it? It is one of the most baffling things for someone not used to the antics of bodies of water.
You see, these two rivers will refuse to mix based on their inherent properties: temperature, speed, density, etc. So, while they are "standing shoulder to shoulder," they will refuse to form an alliance. This is another way our Maker illustrates His point about not 'mixing' with unbelievers. While we meet in our daily lives, we do not need to embrace their ideologies.
Why? because we are made of better 'properties'. Paul told us that we cannot run out of this world because of unbelievers, but we can live a pure, exemplified life of Christ that will force them to rethink. If unbelievers around you are not wondering about your superior values (Christlike), you are one of them!
