When God gave Joseph a glimpse of what his future would be, he became so full of himself that he attracted the wrath of his brothers, which eventually led him to a series of trials. Have you ever wondered what would have happened if Joseph, like Mary, had "kept those things to himself"? For one, he would not have gone to the top through the path of slavery. God made use of that because it was available.
Most times, when God promises to do something for us, we usually think in terms of ourselves. That is, we think it is for us and us alone. That is why we see people getting into offices to embezzle and misappropriate things. Get this: whatever God promises to give us is not just for us; He has others in mind too when giving us those things. Take stock of your life and think of where you are taking the place of God.
When God used trials to mature Joseph, he understood that the dreams were not even about himself but about God's will. You could see that throughout his reign as a ruler, he never exerted his authority. He never abused power. He knew he was there to serve God, and he did it diligently. This is a great lesson for us. When God blesses us, like Abraham, it is so we can bless others. Replace yourself with God.
Read Genesis 45 for more of Joseph's realization.
