We have heard it said time and time again that our past is a part of us we should do away with. We are encouraged to separate the past from the present so it will not affect our future. We are taught how holding on to the past can hinder our progress forward if not checked.
To an extent, all of these are true, and we have the great apostle exhorting us on how he forgets what is behind (past) to lay hold of what is ahead. Truly, there is a part of us that should be cut off and forgotten because its existence has no positive impact on our lives. When we take a trip down that part, the only thing we bring back is pain.
On the flip side, though, there is a past that is worth remembering. In fact, we must continually place it in front of our eyes as a memorial. That past is called the FAITHFULNESS OF GOD. A brief thought down memory lane will reveal lots of God's goodness, kindness, generosity, and help to us; this we must never forget. Be deliberate about always bringing out the past. Be a TESTIFIER!
