Jabez was one of the most influential personalities of the Bible but
whose influence did not gain much stature because of the virtue of the
minuteness of the account given of him. Jabez became a man of influence in that
his story gave us hope in the face of hopelessness. His was a very sad and
pathetic story but change was inevitable because of what he did.
What did Jabez do? It is simple. Jabez prayed! How does that make him influential; people pray all the time you may ask? The difference between the prayer of Jabez and that of many is that his prayers were bore out of simplicity and sincerity. He was done an ill, but he forgot to bring that up with God but rather concentrated on the revaluation of his destiny.
Have you been hurt by someone, and you are so pained that you keep praying to God with the hurt in context? Something like, 'oh Lord, remember the evil that they did to me. Bless me and shame them'. While it may soot your ego it does not have much meaning with God. When you go to God in prayers, seek Him for Him. Nothing else must matter when you are with Him.
