Potters make beautiful objects from ordinary clay. From the moment they see the clay, they can already see in their mind eyes, the end product. When placed side by side, you will definitely find it hard to believe that the once lump of clay is what has transformed to the glittering vase. This is only possible thanks to the imaginative effort of the Potter.
But before you get the end product, which for instance, is the glittering vase, the potter will go through lots of tough times in the course of fashioning the clay because it is in the nature of clay to mar. This will not deter the potter; he continues until the desire end is obtained, but in cases where the clay refuses to conform, he might have to discard it for something better.
Every one of us is an ordinary lump of clay in the hands of God, the Potter. When He calls us to make us a showpiece, we tend to get ahead of ourselves, which results in us becoming marred. Although God is faithful and would want to keep working on us, we have just one job: not frustrating His grace. If we refuse to yield, He might have to discard us and work with someone else. The choice to be a showpiece or a castaway is ours; choose wisely.
