Choice is one of our fundamental human rights. The right to choose what we want to do, where we want to go, eat, dress, etc., is often attached to maturity. But no matter how mature we are, we often choose wrongly. This is due to the fallible tendencies inherent in all of us.
Anyway, there is a need for us to be intentional about our choices because they have latent power. Choices are powerful. They have the power to make or break us. Not wanting to tamper with our free will, God had to set choices before us. He never tries to force us to do anything. Although He could always compel us to action, He would rather we come to understand His acts by allowing us to choose. Even at that, He still tries to steer us on the right course by beseeching us to "choose life".
The reason we are begged to choose life is so we can be happy with the consequences. Once a decision is made, all other options are closed. We are then faced with the outcome or consequence of that decision. While we can make a choice concerning an issue, we do not get to choose its consequences. For instance, if a man chooses to become an armed robber, when caught, he cannot choose the repercussions of his action. He will only accept what is given. It is even worse in spirit. Be careful of how and what you choose.
