DOWN TO EGYPT

Going down to Egypt is a figurative expression derived from the Israelites' sojourn in Egypt, their experiences, and their consequent release. Based on these, God mandated that they must not go back there for any form of assistance. So, that is where Isaiah and other prophets of his time got that expression, "going down to Egypt."

Why did God not want them to do that? Basically, there is nothing the Egyptians can do for them that God cannot. He wanted the newly released Israelites to trust in Him. As believers, we are often tempted to go back to our own "Egypt" too. There are people we relied heavily on before coming to Christ that we will be tempted to go back to now that we are with Him.

God is saying "NO!" In this new year, trust me. I can exceed your expectations if you trust me. Do not rely on any man. Do not go back to your places of bondage. Focus on me, and I will make it happen. Relying on anything outside of God as believers is a recipe for disaster. Avoid it at all costs this year. Trust in Him with all your heart.

Read Isaiah 31 for assistance.
