Seasoned miners will tell you that the best treasures of this world are in the womb of the earth, and anyone who is willing to get them must be willing to dig. Digging is a laborious, tedious job that requires rigor from the digger. Most valuables can never be gotten on the surface, so you must be willing to work if you want some. In the same way, if you are looking for God, you must be willing to work.
The price of seeing God is sacrifice. If you want to lay hold of God this year, you must be willing to pay. You must be willing to dig. You must be willing to sweat. Nothing good comes for free. It is said that salvation is free, yet Christ paid with His life, and He expects everyone of us to be ready to pay at one point or another. Yes! You must be willing to give up your will if you want to see God.
Our will is at the center of our being. It is a law unto itself. It always wants to be in charge, but at its best, it is still flawed. That is why we must be willing to surrender our will to God in order to see Him. God is never on the surface. While He desires for us to know Him, He expects us to do away with our flawed will first. That can be hard, but doable. Ask His Holy Spirit for help. At the end of the day, God still wants us to see Him.
