One of the most baffling questions we struggle with as believers is how we can please God. The writer of the book of Hebrews gave us the conditions under which we can do that, but when we look at our weak nature, we often feel let down. He told us that faith is the only means by which a believer can please God, but there are times when we don't have much faith.
Does this mean we are on the wrong side of God? Next, it charges us to look at those whose faith helped them in their relationship and this is kind of frustrating. But a closer look will reveal that these people we are being charged to borrow a leaf from were not even the best of the best. Most of them lived the kind of lives we will not even contemplate. Imagine, David.
Yet he is a hero of faith. The thing is, faith in God cannot be achieved through self-effort. It is a reliance on what God has done through Christ Jesus. The essence of our faith is our reliance on Christ Jesus. As long as we lean on His bosom like John, we will be equipped to get anything done. There is nothing else in our lives that can help sustain the needed faith. Only the workings of the Holy Spirit through our obedience to Christ can get that done. If you desire to please God, lean on Jesus.
