As it is, we all strongly desire to do what is pleasing in the sight of others. From a tender age, we have been trained to get things right: say the right words, wear the right clothes, choose the right friends, study hard, work hard, etc. As we grow older, we come to the startling realization that no matter what we do, we can and will never be able to please people.
If you are serious with your life, someone is bound to call you out on that. If you are a bit relaxed, you are bound to be deemed unserious. The bat swings both ways, though; just as you cannot please others, they too cannot please you. This is okay. As weird as that seems, it is okay if we do not live our lives to please others. This is not a license to misbehave; it is a call to subject our actions to a higher authority.
The only Person we should be concerned about pleasing is God. When you align your life with God's will and people want to condemn you for that, you have the right to walk away from them without explanation. The only person who has the right to condemn us is our Heavenly Father, and we must always do everything in our power to do what will please Him. Do not live your life struggling with thoughts of whether people like you or not because, no matter how good you are, someone somewhere will still not like you. Focus all your energy on PLEASING GOD.
