When Moses was charging the children of Israel to do right with God before his demise, he made a very strategic point in gaining their attention. He asked them if they knew any other nations that God was as close to as He was to them. The answer was evident; there was no other nation. On the flip side, there were no other gods who also loved their followers the way God loves us.
Believers are apt to forget this poignant point when dealing with God. They forget that they are specifically chosen by God. You did not choose Him, He chose you. Why? to love you! God has called you and me to give Him pleasure because He loves us. When we are facing difficult times, let us be reminded that in those difficulties, God is there.
He is not just a god; He is our Father and good fathers love, cherish, and take care of their children. That is what God does for us. Regardless of the fact that we most often fall short of His standard, He keeps giving us chances. Other gods are not that tolerant; they don't give second chances. They don't love, and they don't care. That is why their worshippers
are like them—cold and unloving. We have a God that loves us and is encouraging us to go share that love with others. Truly, He is nearer than all. He is the best God, all the time!
