A man in the Bible gave us insight into what should not be, but unfortunately is in the Body of Christ. When Phillip (the deacon not the apostle) was led by the Holy Spirit to establish Christ in the Samarian provinces, his success caught the attention of the town sorcerer. Enthralled by the exploits of Phillip, Simon the Sorcerer subscribed to the new faith, albeit with an ulterior motive.
His agenda became evident when higher authority than Phillip, in the person of Peter and John, came to move the new convert to the next level. Simon, having established himself as one with 'power', was intoxicated with the idea that he could do more if he could get what Peter and John had. He thus offered them money in order to make a profit. What he received was a curse!
Simony as an attitude is prevalent in the Body of Christ today. People move close to Great men and women in order to manipulate their offices. They come in the guise of supporting ministries and whatnot, just to grant access, and once that is granted, they take charge. If you are wearing these shoes, quickly throw them away. The things of God must not be sought for personal gain or benefit. There is still room for repentance today.
