Our past, if left unchecked, can sometimes become a great anchor, weighting down our souls and hindering us from moving forward. Many came to Christ after having given in to the 'madness' of the world. When we become new creatures, the memories of our past may sometimes become a problem.
When we consider what we have done, guilt might arise and swallow us. Many people have a hard time accepting that their past is no longer their burden. They fail to release their past to the atoning power of the Cross, and in the end, the guilt succeeds in swallowing them whole.
I hope this is not you. It is written that there is no condemnation for the saved. Nothing has the power to condemn you. Old things have passed away, and you are entering a new reality. Accept the finished work of grace and rest in His love. Paul encourages us to move forward in Christ by forgetting the past (Phil. 3:13–14). Allow His peace to guard your heart, for there is no guilt in Christ.
