It is human nature to want to sound our alarms, to want to show that we really are one of the best. We try our best to have the highest degrees, pursue the top positions, and generally garner accolades. Is this wrong? No! It is good for us to be relevant and useful, but there is a better way.
Showing off on our prestigious degrees, the numbers of houses and cars we own, or other achievements pale when compared with our character. Any day, anytime, character trumps personal achievements. When your character closely resembles that of your Father in heaven, you are getting the message.
As believers, we must live our lives with eternity in mind. One day, it will be all over, and what we will be left with is not our titles but our character. Is it not better to work fervently on something with eternal value? By all means, try and better your life, but in the course of doing that, pause intermittently and ask yourself if you are developing Christ-like character.
Read Ephesians 5 for more on being like Christ.
Happy New Year, beloved! May this year answer all your questions in Jesus' name. AMEN
